Community:

One of the greatest achievements that any regeneration partnership can hope for is to see the development of sustainable communities. With money secured through the Home Office Community Cohesion Fund Action Halifax is set to continue working with local groups and individuals from communities in and around Halifax to achieve many positive developments.

With the focus on 'Bringing People and Communities Together', Action Halifax led in the organisation of three key celebration events, in areas which had not previously benefited from regeneration or community development activity.

Boothtown Partnership:

In helping to establish community group, The Boothtown Partnership in October 2001, the Action Halifax Board is committed to assisting in the development of community partnerships in the areas of Siddal and Pellon.

The first Boothtown Food and Dance Festival was held in August 2003. Attracting over 1000 attendees throughout the day, the event continued to grow in 2004 and 2005 with over 2000 visitors from Halifax, Calderdale and further afield. The 2006 event is planned for August.

Shobna Gulati who plays Sunita Parekh in Coronation Street officially opened Boothtown's latest Food and Dance Festival held in the grounds of the Bankfield Museum.

The People's Consortium (Siddal, Backhold & Exley):

In June 2003, Action Halifax together with partners Leisure In Action pulled together a range of individuals from the Siddal area and set up The People's Consortium (Siddal, Backhold and Exley). With our support this group has already raised nearly £50,000 towards a £150,000 project to regenerate their local recreation park.

Action Halifax held it's second cohesion funded road show in partnership with The People's Consortium in May 2004. The Sport and Health Fun Day brought communities together to participate in a range of health and sporting activities and was supported by Siddal's very own Rugby Star 'Johnny Lawless'.

Pellon Pride Fun Day:

Action Halifax hosted the first 'Pellon Pride Fun Day' on 12th March 2005. The day was a success and included athletics and sports competitions, dance groups and live perfomances. The event attracted the largest cross-section of people from different areas, backgrounds and ages at any AH Community event so far, with over 1000 people joining in activities on the day.

The event has helped to launch the projects activity in this area which has previously had little input from regeneration or community development. Halifax Rugby League Players, Rikki Sheriffe and Jode Sheriffe, who are also brothers helped motivate youngsters and promote the Fun Day.

European Neighbours Day:

This event in 2006 bought together communities from across Calderdale to celebrate Neighbours! As part of a European Wide celebration, Action Halifax organised one of four UK events for European Neighbours Day. Live music, community stalls, celebration of neighbours local to the Borough, sports and games entertained the crowds on Tuesday 30th May 2006 at the Action Halifax / Eureka! site. Another Neighbours Day event is planned for 2007...
